The mystery of the ‘secret canadian bank bailout’
Stephen Gordon is concerned that the CCPA put out a press release saying that the Canadian Government secretly bailed out banks during the global financial crisis. I heard him on CBC yesterday and I listened carefully, partly because I know him to say things that are interesting and sometimes galling…
Why Brigette DePape is more thoughtful than David Akin
If you don’t know the name, Brigette DePape, you should. She risked, and lost, her job to say what most Canadians believe. Maude Barlow thinks she is “courageous and committed.” Elizabeth May thought that she undertook an act of personal courage. And, importantly, DePape’s press release and other publications are thoughtful and articulate. But my…
National Post on global warming climate destabilization
The National Post has a decidedly denialist narrative. Do a search for “National Post climate change” and you get a series of articles on the brave scientists “bucking the conventional wisdom.” Or, if you prefer the second choice, you get a series of article tagged “climate change” by Peter Foster, Lorne Gunter and Rex Murphy:…
Overheard conversation about G20 and G8 police violence
Last week I attended a gathering of social activists at the BC legislature so that we could talk about what solidarity with activists in Toronto might look like. The protesters and the journalists and the civilian passerbyers that were arrested or otherwise beaten and intimidated in Toronto last week have had their lives altered by…
‘Normal’, ‘special’, and the art of marginalization
I have a warm fuzzy place in my heart for the engineers and other technical specialists with a penchant for math and a lack of understanding of social nuance, connotation or tone. Heck, in many contexts, I’m the ignorant cis white guy that doesn’t understand the impact that my language choices have on others. But I…

Sherwin,
This is so damn funny and yet, so damn tragic. Two out of the three available seats on by-election night went Conservative. You are going to have to continue with your animation project and get them into every riding. Woe is me about the electorate in general, but thank you for providing some excellent belly laughs.

Hmm. It’s too bad this is what passes as funny these days. I though it was politically incorrect to verbally abuse people who think differantly than you. You are speaking out both side of your mouth.
There is a long and established importance to political satire. And for the record, I’m not simply criticizing Harper because he thinks differently. I’m criticizing Harper because his ideas are wrong and his interests are unethical.
