Winning fast at Connections, Wordle, Strands
In praise of constraints and letting go.
Are you still playing Wordle? I started and then I stopped. Then I started again, but intermittently.
When I play now, I also always play Connections and Strands. I’m terrible at Strands. But. I enjoy to play all three together and, crucially, I only give myself ten minutes.
I enjoy to play fast. This forces me to move quickly and embrace mistakes. Mistakes are part of winning.
Because I’m weak at Strands I have a sort of brute force attack. I rely on hints to find as many words as I can.
Having an arbitrary constraint, like a ten minute limit, can change a lot. Try it out. I don’t win every time. If I’m close at ten minutes, then I let myself go over by a bit. But I don’t consider that a win.
Getting done under ten minutes is more important than winning at every individual game.
To win, proper, I need to win all three games under ten. But finishing under ten, and winning at two, is still pretty satisfying.
I guess two out of three ain’t bad after all. (As long as it’s under ten.)
How are you playing?
